Golden Orb Spider (Nephila maculata)
The colour of the spider's big web gave the spider its common name. It can be easily be known as bird trapping web too!`
Its permanent and strong web measuring about 3 feet in diameter . And its mostly weaved in flyways between the trees; this explains why insectivorous bats and small birds sometimes get tangled in it.
The females of the Golden Orb reach an imposing 45mm (nearly two inch) body length but they are basically harmless. These spiders are placid enough that they even allow other small species of spiders to cohabit their web in a symbiotic relationship (each contributes something which benefits the other). Commonly encountered in the Wet Tropics, the Golden Orb can also be seen around buildings.
